Short Biography

Brent received his B.S. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri—Columbia, and his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado—Anschutz Medical Campus.  He worked in Andrew Thorburn’s laboratory studying the molecular mechanisms that link autophagy and cell death; he found that cancer cells can resist cell death by selectively degrading a transcription factor needed to activate pro-death genes. Leveraging this knowledge from his graduate work, Brent hopes to understand the regulation of transcription factors that may provide neuroprotection in Huntington’s disease. He joined Dr. Myriam Heiman’s laboratory in 2019.
